It's Begining to Smell A lot Like Christmas

MMMMMM...sugars and spices and everything nices. I worked on Kyle's favorite cookie for Christmas tonight. I sent him to get me molasses at the Amish bulk food store it's way less expensive than in the store. I can get a quart for $2 instead of a pint for over $3. I also like to have molassess on hand for my baked beans.
Kyle even helped with the scooping and rolling in the sugar. I usually don't make these much because I don't like having mulitple steps, I just like to drop and bake.
Kayla worked on her cream cheese mints tonight. I have a little snowman cookie cutter that I usually use to make these, but it went missing in action so she started out with a pumpkin...I mean Christmas ornament (if you squint your eyes and look just right.) She gave up on that and went to the rolling and squishing with a fork.
Squint your eyes and look just right, you could hang these on a tree.
We ended up with a snow day today. It's a bittersweet thing this time of year. I have so much material to cover before next week. The students don't learn much the week before break. (We learned in our seminars that this stage is called emotion, critical thinking can't happen when you are in emotion, good or bad.) I was up and out of bed at 5:30 this morning and left with Kyle to go to work at 7:00 this morning because I thought I'd get some work done before the kids got their at 10:15. By the time he dropped me off at school, school was closed. It was quiet in the building, I got a lot done. That was nice. I came home and started the tackling of the piles that get ignored when it's just us in the house. But, we have a Christmas dinner at our house Saturday with friends so, I have to make sure all my papers are filed and that kind of stuff.
The kids didn't liked being worked all morning with mom home, but they survived and got to snuggle up for a movie afternoon. It was nice to have the weather slow down my family. I really got to enjoy a quiet evening at home...I can't remember the last time we did that? hmmm...nope still can't remember. Thank you, Heavenly Father for the little blessings, they bring big smiles!

  1. I'm going to make Jack's fav cookies tonight...I didn't get a snow day, patients always make it in! I got to snuggle up with a nice smelly bowel resection and a foot with a bunch of screws in it. Sort of like getting coal in your stocking. Stay warm!

  2. Ok...I was about to comment on your delish cookies but I'm sitting here laughing about Kathy's comment!!! She is just a hoot, isn't she?? She makes me laugh all day at work too. You are lucky to have her as a friend (and she -you too, I am sure!)
Anyway...glad you had a good, productive day off!!

  3. We totally made the cookies with the molasses this week! Oh man they are amazing. I like Kayla's little pumpkin cookies. They are way cute! Great song on the blog, too. (Canon in D) I think we have similar music taste. Can't wait to see you all soon!
