A member of our congregation passed away this week. He was the branch president when we starting going back to church. He gave us our temple recommend interviews when we went to get our family sealed in the temple. He will be missed.
As Relief Society President, I have been busy getting the funeral dinner arranged as well as getting meals sent to the home for the family members coming in from out west. It has been easy getting things together for this. The members of the branch always respond well when things are needed.
I have been thinking about Heaven for the last couple of days. I know that this member is home. He is visiting with relatives that have proceeded him in death. I know the illness from his earthly body is gone and he is at peace and is learning. I feel comfort in knowing these things.
Our stake president was visiting our branch when we received word of the death. He gave this scripture in our branch council meeting Sunday. D&C 59: 1-2 "Behold, blessed, saith the Lord, are they who have come up unto this land with an eye single to my glory, according to my commandments. For those that live shall inherit the earth, and those that die shall rest from all their labors, and their works shall follow them; and they shall receive a crown in the mansions of my Father, which I have prepared for them."
The sting of death is only temporary here on earth. Families are Forever. What a comforting thought.
